Things to do in Great Tew

Situated in the picturesque village of Great Tew on the edge of the Cotswolds, The Falkland Arms is the perfect base for exploring Oxfordshire’s most popular attractions. With scenic walks around the Great Tew Estate right on our doorstep, plus historic towns, grand estates, and famous filming locations just a short drive away, there’s something here for every visitor.
From Diddly Squat Farm Shop in Chadlington – made famous by Jeremy Clarkson’s Clarkson’s Farm – to the grandeur of Blenheim Palace, the dreaming spires of Oxford, the charm of Chipping Norton, Burford, and Stow-on-the-Wold, and the elegance of Rousham Gardens, there’s no shortage of reasons to stay a while. And for something truly exclusive, Soho Farmhouse is just minutes from our door.

Diddly Squat Farm Shop – Chadlington

Jeremy Clarkson’s now-iconic farm shop is just a short drive from The Falkland Arms. Packed with homegrown produce, local delicacies, and plenty of tongue-in-cheek humour, Diddly Squat Farm Shop is a must for fans of Clarkson’s Farm or anyone who loves fresh, local food.

Blenheim Palace

What do James Bond, Transformers, Mission Impossible, and Indiana Jones have in common? While you’re busy trying to connect the dots, we’ll give you a hint: They were all filmed at a striking location only a 20-minute drive away from our pub. Considered to be Britain’s favourite palace (sorry, Buckingham), Blenheim Palace – the birthplace and former home of Winston Churchill – has been the star of many film and television productions due to its exquisite architecture, elegant interiors, and bewitching landscapes. With plenty to see and do (including seasonal events such as spooky Halloween trails and magical Christmas experiences), you never know – you might notice a familiar face in the background of a future blockbuster…

Waterfowl Sanctuary and Children’s Farm

We don’t think you need much convincing when it comes to being in the company of precious animals, but if you do, there are two more words that might do the trick – Cuddle Corner. That’s right, at Waterfowl Sanctuary and Children’s Farm, not only are you allowed to feed their gorgeous selection of animals, but there’s a designated Cuddle Corner, where – under direct supervision, of course – you and family can cuddle a multitude of babies to your heart’s content. That alone is worth the low admission price, wouldn’t you say?

Rye Hill Golf Club

Your next hole-in-one might be closer than you think. At Rye Hill, you’ll discover a warm welcome for golf pros and newbies alike, with over 200 acres of rolling countryside, sparkling lakes, and impressive panoramic views – perfect for practicing those tricky long drives. Just make sure to shout ‘Fore!’ – you never know who might be around.

Broughton Castle

Though we don’t doubt the comfort and beauty of your own home, before you go back after a peaceful visit to the pub, have you considered stopping by one of only 20 homes to be awarded five stars in England’s Best Houses by Simon Jenkins? Dating back to 1306 (and still looking just as beautiful for its age), Broughton House has survived a siege by Royalist troops during the time of Charles I, extensive damage after the Battle of Edgehill in 1642, and decay, before being restored in the 19th century. And with so much beauty contained within the grounds, gardens, and walls of this moated and fortified castle, you’d be forgiven if you forget your own home completely.
